Exotic World Day Three, 50th Annual Striptease Reunion

Tempest Storm

From one kind of boa to another as burlesque took over the Las Vegas Fremont Street Strip with an attempt to capture the Guinness Record for the Worlds Longest Feather Boa!

This shocking pink creation from Ostrich.com stretched for an incredible HALF A MILE and you can own a twelve foot piece of history by visiting the site and paying just $30.

In a proud moment for heterosexual men across the globe, I am proud to say that as an official participant in the event, I now have a certificate to prove that I am part of the world record. I’m not sure how many people were part of this - I think it was at least 250 – but I don’t think that I’ll ever forget the sight of the line all shimmying in (not quite) unison whilst a manic Julie Atlas Muz was running up and down the line to teach people how to shake their booties to the music of ‘The Big Strip’ which was played over the sound system.

50th Annual Striptease Reunion [2:21m]: Play in Popup

Onto the evening and the setting for the 50th Annual Striptease Reunion Showcase! If you’re a fan of the golden years of American Burlesque, then this was a once in a lifetime chance to see some of the stars from that era take to the stage again.

Many of these performers were now in their seventies and eighties – and one or two were even in wheelchairs. Obviously these stars of yesteryear can’t bump and grind like they used to, but the way that they commanded the stage was something that the performers of today can certainly learn from.

In total there were over 35 performers from yesteryear, including Kitten Natividad who shot to fame as the big-boobed starlet from the Russ Mayer films and Tura Satana, ex-Elvis beau and the consummate performer’s performer. Satan’s Angel, the first ever fire tassel twirler and inspiration of MoB Performer of the Year Red Sarah was incredibly sprightly for her age – although this might be something to do with the fact that she has the legs of a 25 year old!

It was amusing to hear that Satan’s Angel had also brought her mother to the event too!

The show itself was presented by El Vez, the Mexican Elvis and the amusingly morbid Miss Astrid. I’ve heard a hell of a lot about El Vez and finally getting to see him perform (albeit as a compare) was a pleasure. Senor Vez has the same easy-going manner as our very own Dusty Limits and his repartee with the caustic Miss Astrid was brilliant. I don’t know if the two have compared together before, but the chemistry between the two made me suspect that they had.

Bob Rubberlegs and the World Famous Bob also helped the proceedings as they interviewed some of the golden oldies like Candy ‘Baby’ Caramelo, and the wheelchair bound Tai Ping.

The 50th reunion also featured tribute performances from Erochica Bamboo, the Miss Exotic World from 2003, New Yorks incredible Jo Boobs, and Michelle Lamour who performed the most exquisite fan-dance that I’ve ever seen in my life. These three performers are certainly doing their bit to uphold the American burlesque tradition which was started by their older compadres and any new performers could do a lot worse than checking out videos of some of their performances.

The highlight of the evening was the final act. A certain TEMPEST STORM! If you don’t know who she is then I suggest that you close your browser down right now, bow your head in shame and go and stand in the corner! As well as starring with Bettie Page in Teaserama, she spent about half a century in the upper echelons of the burlesque world before officially retiring in 1995. Therefore you can imagine who special it was to see her take to the stage twelve years later! For somebody who is supposed to be 79 years old, her fifteen minute performance was something that many younger performers would be hard pushed to emulate.
